The Race to Deliver Quantum-Safe Cryptography

Quantum computers are very efficient at breaking existing encryption that relies on the basic mathematical principle of factoring. These Public Key Encryption (PKI) systems will be left in the dust as quantum computers gain power, stability, and coherence. Additionally, data stolen today can be decrypted by quantum computers while the data is still relevant and valuable. The Verge reports on how Lily Chen and her team of mathematicians at the US National Institute of Science & Technology (NIST) will conclude their five-year cryptographic algorithm submissions that protect against quantum computing threats. With these new and tested algorithms, the future of quantum cybersecurity is looking brighter.
