The U.S. Department of Commerce’s CHIPS Research and Development Office recently announced plans to invest more than $2 billion in quantum computing initiatives to strengthen domestic innovation, manufacturing, and national security capabilities. The funding will support quantum foundries and leading quantum computing companies as part of a broader effort to accelerate the development of advanced quantum technologies.
As government and industry investments in quantum computing continue to grow, organizations face increasing pressure to prepare for the cybersecurity implications of cryptographically relevant quantum computers. Sensitive data encrypted today remains vulnerable to future “harvest now, decrypt later” attacks, making the adoption of post-quantum cryptography and quantum safe cryptography a critical priority.
Preparing for the Quantum Era
Organizations across both the public and private sectors are evaluating strategies to implement PQC, deploy NIST PQC algorithms, and establish crypto agility to support future cryptographic transitions. Building a comprehensive cryptographic inventory and understanding cryptographic dependencies across enterprise environments are essential first steps toward quantum readiness.
