QuSecure demonstrates quantum-secured satellite link with Starlink
Dan O’Shea / Inside Quantum Technology / 9 March 2o23
This quantum-secured satellite link is a major step forward in the quantum security of both governmental and commercial communications. Understanding the significance of this breakthrough, we must first understand the challenges posed by quantum computing in regards to data security. In brief, as traditional security encryption relies on mathematical algorithms which can be broken down step-by-step and calculated by computers, quantum computing can quickly solve these equations at a speed not achievable by classical machines – thus rendering many of the current encryption measures obsolete.
However, with this new technology from QuSecure, secure communications and data transmissions can now be transmitted between two points on Earth without being vulnerable to quantum-based attacks. This is due to the use of post-quantum cryptography, which utilizes mathematical problems that are extremely difficult for even a quantum computer to solve. This quantum-secure link will be able to provide secure communication links between various governmental and private entities, as well as providing improved secure communications for commercial satellite operators.
In addition to this breakthrough, the technology could be used for other applications, such as the secure transmission of financial data and medical records. This could prove to be a huge boost in terms of security since any sensitive information would now require quantum-resistant cryptography in order to be transmitted safely through space.
The possibilities are seemingly endless, and with QuSecure’s technology now making them a reality, we can rest assured that our data is not only secure, but also protected from even the most advanced forms of hacking. To put it simply: Quantum-resilient cryptography has just been taken to an entirely new level. With this new knowledge, the future of secure data transmissions looks brighter than ever.
