Deadline – Quantum Vulnerability Inventory for Federal Agencies – May 2023

Webinar: Deadline – Quantum Vulnerability Inventory for Federal Agencies – May 2023

On Wednesday, January 18, 2023, we hosted an in-depth webinar about the quantum computing threat to our national security. We covered existing and emerging digital security threats and how post-quantum cybersecurity solutions can help thwart quantum and classical attacks. These threats are imminent and have prompted several White House Executive Memorandums, the most recent of which is the Office of Management and Budget’s November 2022 directive for all Federal agencies to inventory, plan, and budget for upgrading and protecting their networks and systems to ensure they have quantum-safe cryptographic solutions in place.

The White House and Office of Management and Budget has given Federal agencies a deadline of May 2023 to provide a list of quantum-vulnerable cryptographic systems.

QuSecure applauds the Office of Management and Budget’s directive of 18 November that all Federal agencies begin implementing post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

The memorandum describes the initial steps for agencies transitioning to PQC by conducting a prioritized inventory of cryptographic systems. Additionally, by May 4, 2023, and annually after that until 2035, Federal agencies are directed to submit a prioritized inventory of information systems and assets that contain cryptanalytically relevant quantum computer (CRQC)-vulnerabilities to ONCD and the Department of Homeland Security Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). As a crucial step, OMB is allocating dollars to this transition. OMB requests each Federal agency to submit the funding required to migrate information systems and assets inventoried under this memorandum to post-quantum cryptography during the following fiscal year.

QuSecure’s mission recognizes that quantum-safe cybersecurity is a national security imperative. We believe our nation must secure its digital assets as quickly as possible to prepare before a quantum computer breaks our current cryptography. Any data stolen today using standard encryption could one day be used against us by an adversary. By acting now, we can protect ourselves from the potentially devastating impacts of a quantum computing-enabled attack.

Fortunately, PQC solutions will enable data to remain secure for many decades. QuSecure is here to help you make this transition as smooth as possible.
